Not enough data

A product page is clearest when the product name appears in its address, its title tag and its main heading. These three places are the strongest on-page signals of what a page is about. This check looks at whether they agree.

Why it matters

Mismatches create confusion: a page titled "Home" with a heading of "Our favourites" tells search engines little. Aligning the three costs nothing at publish time and makes the product easier to rank for its own name.

What the audit looks at

The audit compares words from the product name across the URL, the title tag and the H1 on the product page.

What usually causes it

  • A title tag left on a template default for all products
  • A heading written as a marketing line and not a product name
  • URL handles created from a supplier code
  • SEO app templates that overwrite titles with generic text

How to fix it

Use the words shoppers search for in the product address, title and heading. The effort is small, usually a setting or a paste and under 30 minutes.

  1. Make the address slug, the page title and the heading all carry the product name and its main descriptor.

On Shopify

  1. Product > Search engine listing: edit the page title and URL handle to carry the product name; keep the redirect option ticked.

On WooCommerce

  1. Edit the slug and the SEO title in Yoast or Rank Math so they carry the product name.

How to check it yourself

  1. Look at the address, the browser tab title and the page heading for one product.
  2. Read the title tag in the page source.
  3. Check three products of different types.

Frequently asked questions

Do all three need to be identical?

No. They should clearly refer to the same product, with the title tag allowed to add a brand or detail.

Is this a ranking guarantee?

No. It removes confusion and lets other signals count.
