Online shoppers cannot pick the product up, so the gallery stands in. Showing several angles, detail shots and context gives them a way to judge it. This check looks for more than one image on the product page.
Why it matters
A single flat photo leaves out what shoppers want to know: back, texture, scale, how it looks on someone. Each unanswered question is a reason to hesitate or buy elsewhere. Stores that sell clothing, furniture and anything with detail benefit most.
What the audit looks at
The audit counts the distinct product images in the gallery of the product page.
What usually causes it
- Products imported with only the supplier main image
- A theme that shows only the first image on mobile
- Gallery thumbnails that load late or are hidden
- Photography budget spent on hero products only
How to fix it
Add more product images. The effort is small, usually a setting or a paste and under 30 minutes.
- Aim for five or more: front, back, detail, in use, and scale.
- For apparel, one shot per colourway. Visitors will not buy a colour they cannot see.
How to check it yourself
- Open three products and count the images a shopper can reach.
- Check the mobile layout, where swipe galleries sometimes show only one.
- Ask someone to find the dimension or fit in the photos alone.
Frequently asked questions
How many images is enough?
It depends on the product. Four to six covering front, back, detail and context is a common starting point.
Do videos count?
A short video helps. Treat it as an addition to still photos, not a replacement.
