When someone pastes your store link into a message or social post, the preview card comes from Open Graph tags in the page. They set the title, description and image. This check confirms that those tags exist, so shared links look like a store and not a bare address.

Why it matters

Shared links are free marketing. A link with a clear image and title gets clicked, while a blank card gets skipped. Founders share their own store links all the time, and customers share products with friends, so the preview is worth getting right once.

What the audit looks at

The audit reads the og:title, og:description and og:image tags from the home and product pages and checks that each has a value.

What usually causes it

  • A theme with Open Graph tags switched off in its settings
  • A missing default share image for the store
  • Product images that are too small to be used as a preview
  • An SEO app that overrides tags with empty values

How to fix it

Add Open Graph tags so shared links show an image and a title. The effort is small, usually a setting or a paste and under 30 minutes.

  1. Set og:title, og:description and og:image on every page; og:image should be at least 1200x630.
  2. Without them a shared link is a bare URL, which is shared and clicked far less.
  3. Check with the Facebook Sharing Debugger, which also clears the cached preview.

How to check it yourself

  1. Paste a product link into the Facebook Sharing Debugger or a similar Open Graph checker.
  2. Read the preview card and confirm the title, description and image are right.
  3. Check at least one product, one collection and the home page.

Frequently asked questions

What size should the share image be?

Around 1200 by 630 pixels works across most platforms. Use a clear product photo with little small text.

Why is my old image still showing?

Platforms cache previews. Re-scrape the link in the sharing debugger to refresh it.
